Course Details

This essential course unlocks access to breathtaking underwater landscapes between 18-40 metres (60-130 feet) – where dramatic walls, historic wrecks, and unique marine life await. Through structured training, you’ll develop the skills and knowledge to safely plan and execute dives beyond standard recreational limits while managing the physiological effects of depth.

The programme combines rigorous theory with practical experience to build confidence in deeper environments. You’ll learn to monitor nitrogen absorption, manage gas supplies, and respond to potential emergencies – transforming you into a disciplined, safety-conscious diver prepared for more adventurous underwater exploration.

Course Structure:

  • Prerequisites: SDI Open Water Diver (or equivalent), minimum age 18 (15-17 with parental consent)
  • Junior Limits: Maximum depth 21m/70ft (10-14 years)
  • Requirements: 2 training dives (30m/100ft & 40m/130ft max), 80% exam pass
  • Duration: Typically completed over 2-3 days

Depth Considerations:

The course emphasises conservative diving practices, teaching you to respect depth limits while recognising personal comfort zones. You’ll learn why most recreational divers choose to stay shallower than the 40m/130ft maximum even after certification.

What You Will Learn

  • Depth Physiology: Understand nitrogen narcosis and gas management at depth
  • Advanced Planning: Calculate gas requirements and no-decompression limits
  • Equipment Configuration: Optimise gear for deeper environments
  • Emergency Protocols: Practice contingency planning and problem-solving
  • Buoyancy Precision: Maintain control during deep ascents/descents

Key Benefits:

  • Expanded Access: Safely explore wrecks, walls, and deep reefs
  • Technical Foundation: Prerequisite for advanced certifications
  • Enhanced Awareness: Recognise and manage narcosis symptoms
  • Confidence Building: Develop disciplined dive habits
  • Global Recognition: Certification accepted at deep dive sites worldwide
